In today’s RACS email newsletter, Robert relayed that Synch-Point has apparently halted production of their FLCL Deluxe DVD box set but has not ruled out re-releasing it “sometime in the future”.
Future of FLCL (Fooly Cooly) on DVD Uncertain
I don’t have any schedule changes to relay this week, but Synch-Point did send out a bulletin to all retailers that they will not be shipping anymore of the FLCL Deluxe DVD boxed set and that they have canceled all backorders for it. They did say that they are considering re-releasing FLCL on DVD again sometime in the future, but did not elaborate on when that might happen or what the new release (if any) would look like. We do have a few customer backorders booked for the FLCL Deluxe which unfortunately we will now have to cancel. We’ll just have to wait and see if a future release is made available.
Maybe they could put out a trimmed down version without some of the pack-ins like the bracelet or the bonus music video disc – it depends on the terms of their deal with Gainax and how much it costs them to repackage and redesign new re-releases. If you were wavering and somehow find a copy available online or in a B&M store, I would jump on it since it’s pretty much out-of-print and unavailable most everywhere. I guess the remaining copies in stock in the wild still have a postcard redeemable for a free T-shirt.
For those who still haven’t gotten their shirts yet, the reason for the delay is that Synch-Point prints them in batches of 1000 and ships them based on timing and size supply – outstanding Small, Medium, and pre-April 2008 Large and X-Large requests should be fulfilled by later this month and post-April Large/X-Large orders by October or November. Just a heads-up.
