Finals week means much studying (drawn by モト)
In this nose-in-the-books edition of Potluck: a once-missing 14-year-old anime fan is found, a few blogging community matters, Kurokami on domestic DVD, and an update on Kadokawa’s subtitling efforts.

When I began composing this in the afternoon, I thought it would be just another collection of news items baked into a Potluck post but then a few more things came to light this evening and the above image suspiciously gained more relevance.
UPDATE 1/18 12:37AM PST: AnimeNews.biz has issued a retraction to their story about Best Buy and how they shelf anime in their stores. Instead of removing sections entirely, they are “in the process of realigning the anime section of each store depending on title popularity”. I have accordingly adjusted that portion of this post.

I stumbled upon the Google AJAX Search API yesterday afternoon and managed to find some results for keywords ‘anime’ and ‘manga’ over the past few days that I felt worth commenting on and linking.

This blog takes no official position on smoking but it does support multicolored skies.
In this edition of Potluck: reaction to Mario Parva’s interview and to some unsubstantiated Amazon listings, a different sort of team blog is born, and a small morsel of anime sales data.

Okay, I know I haven’t made a post in a couple weeks but I am not dead. I was just busy with school and distracted by many things like a trial subscription to Blockbuster Online. Also I didn’t have much inspiration to write about anything in particular. Hopefully there will be a flurry of manga postings over the next week as I try to get as close to finishing the Buncha Manga project as I can before next Saturday.
For those of you who care, my panel at Fanime will be Saturday at 1pm in Panels room #1 (aka the Santa Clara room) at the Hilton Hotel. Some of the other panels I am interested in checking out are Blogs and Anime Popularity (the other blogging one with Lolikit), Mad About MADs, and of course the industry panels. Apparently, there will be a maid cafe as well so I’ll try to stop by and take pictures.
Also, something from the May 11th edition of the Anime Corner Store newsletter caught my eye:
- TOUKA GETTAN ANIME AIRING EPISODES IN REVERSE ORDER -
The creators of the Touka Gettan supernatural anime series have acknowledged on their blog that the twenty-six episodes have been airing in deliberate reverse order from the chronological story. The first episode (which aired on April 2) told the ending of the story arc, and each successive episode has been going backward in time to tell how the ending came about.
I haven’t seen Touka Gettan yet so can anyone confirm that that the ordering is like that and if it works as a narrative device?

I can’t believe that it took reading about Bandai Visual’s rather high pricing of the Gunbuster and fans’ reaction to it at SakuraCon last weekend to get me to write a post after a ten-day absence. My explanation is that I was distracted by a bunch of things including classes, chores, laundry, compiling my radio playlist, spending Easter day with my family, anime club, and watching the first season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” on DVD. In that span of time, I start writing a couple of entries but I wasn’t able to finish them to my liking so I just moved on. In case you want to know, the first one would have been posted on Easter about religion in anime and would have focused on Scrapped Princess, FMA, and Chrono Crusade while the second was an informational post about MyAnimeList. Anyway, I apologize in advance if this is a relatively long post but I have a lot of stuff I want to discuss.

There was also a head-on camera angle.
Okay, first off: I have two corrections to make to Monday’s AAA post. #1 is that the individual awards are also called Mechas. I could have sworn I had read about that name a couple months ago and just plain forgot until I looked at some of the stories published after the ceremony. #2 is that you CAN stream the ceremony online, according to ANN. (Windows Media Player handled it well for me.) After the jump: my experience watching the awards, comments on the Haruhi R1 dual-ordering, and a call for suggestions of anime to show during empty spots in club. Read the rest of this entry »

I forgot to talk about this when it happened a couple days ago when it happened but ANN dropped the big ad on the left side of their pages and made it look more normal. I like the slightly wider and uninterrupted space for the main news listing and today their logo gained some holiday spirit.

Right now, I am trying to create rough member card mockups for Anime Club as well as a tentative schedule for the remainder of the year. After the jump: two DVD collections get delayed, hack//ROOTS premiere details, and ADV incentivizes its digital distribution service.

I’m back in the library again. This afternoon, I asked the landlady when the internet was going to be set up. It turns out sometime “by the end of the week”. So before 11:59pm Saturday night, I should have Internet access in my apartment. I hope. Lack of bandwidth to waste has allowed me to get some good reading time into my day, so maybe it’s a good thing to be unplugged for a while. But only for a while, not two weeks.
