Common Threads: Real Brands in Anime

One thing I noticed while watching both Kids on the Slope and Tsuritama this season is that both feature brand-name items instead of knock-off names: Yamaha musical instruments in the former and Shimano fishing equipment in the latter. That got me thinking about other instances of actual brands appearing in anime.

Some obvious sponsored cases are Pizza Hut in Code Geass and various brand placements in Tiger & Bunny including USTREAM, Calbee and Pepsi NEX.

The character JACK in Asobi ni Iku yo! sometimes got fast food at A&W, which could be realistic since there are A&W restaurants in Okinawa (where the series takes place).

Summer Wars had Dells, an iPhone, Nintendo DS’s, and a Datsun T-shirt among others.

That’s all I can think of at the moment. (I guess the Steins;Gate game had Dr Pepper while the anime had Dk Pepper, according to this 2011 Kotaku article.)
