The Math Girls Manga Kickstarter

I was surprised to learn through Canon on Twitter last Friday that there was a Kickstarter project to publish an English translation of the 1st Mathematical Girls manga volume. I had bought the two-volume manga series some time ago as a curiosity – I still consider myself a math/numbers nerd even though I didn’t do to well in college calculus. I didn’t think there would be an effort to officially translate them and wasn’t even aware Bento Books, the publisher, had released the original novel last year until I read the project’s description.

As I write this, the project is almost a third funded – $2,953 out of $9,000 has been kicked in with 26 days to go (June 9th). I pledged $50, meaning I will get a hardcover version of the novel along with a DRM-free PDF version of the manga and an advance print copy of volume 1. I hope this project is successful enough to bring out the second volume and give rise to similar projects from other small publishers.
