Potluck: AAA Errata, Haruhi DVD Ordering, Show Suggestions

There was also a head-on camera angle.
Okay, first off: I have two corrections to make to Monday’s AAA post. #1 is that the individual awards are also called Mechas. I could have sworn I had read about that name a couple months ago and just plain forgot until I looked at some of the stories published after the ceremony. #2 is that you CAN stream the ceremony online, according to ANN. (Windows Media Player handled it well for me.) After the jump: my experience watching the awards, comments on the Haruhi R1 dual-ordering, and a call for suggestions of anime to show during empty spots in club.
I watched the whole thing this afternoon and it’s just under an hour long. It looked like I was watching a panel given the size of the room and volume of the audience. That is a actually a good thing because it provides a homey atmosphere like other non-mainstream industry awards shows (e.g. AIAS, Webbys). One nice thing that happened throughout was all the winners thanking the original creators; however, the running joke of Pierre Bernard and his Recliner of Rage didn’t really catch on and flew over the heads of many attendees.
The next thing I want to shortly discuss is the different episode ordering of R1 Haruhi DVDs. This still confuses me a little after having the news roll around in my head over the past couple days. As far as I understand it from the explanation on the ASOS Brigade site, the regular edition releases will follow the chronological order (Haruhi order) while the special editions of volumes 2-4 will include episodes in the original TV broadcast sequence (Kyon order) that are subtitled only. I think I’m going to stick with the regular edition DVDs after pre-ordering the FLCL collection from RightStuf and then seeing it sold for much cheaper on Buy.com several weeks later. I just don’t think that the extra $25 is worth it for the box, CD, original ordering, and other extras. Although the “lemon” covers are tempting…
Finally, I am taking over showing duties (and becoming club president) in late March for my anime club and I’ll be forced to fill out some timeslots as the 24/26-episode series we’re currrently watching start wrapping up. I will need three to four anime for the 4 weeks of May meetings and I’m looking for unlicensed comedies and shoujo that are easily obtainable over fansubs. On my own, I came up with Nodame Cantabile, Bokura ga Ita, and Manabi Straight. I’m considering some shows (NHK, Geass, Kanon) that I would rather save for fall but I’m willing to show the first couple installments of them if need be. Any suggestions?

Zero no Tsukaima is laughable and worthwhile but its only 13 episodes.
Well that’s why it’s gonna get a second season sometime this year.
